Adela V. Montano (Vigil), age 87, resident of Albuquerque, passed away at home surrounded by family on January 20th, 2019. Adela is survived by her children John, Benita, Paul and Cynthia, 7 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Adela was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years Bennie J. Montano.
Adela was an active member of the Church of the Ascension. She was active in various parish ministries. She coordinated lectors in the parish and was co-coordinator of the Extraordinary Ministers of Communion for several years. Despite being infected with the West Nile virus in 2003 she continued to lector in a wheelchair and later from a walker. She had a passion for reading scripture and would often be complimented on how beautifully she read. She was presented with the St. Francis of Assisi award in 2004 because of her dedication to her ministries. Her strength and faith will always be an inspiration to others.
She will always be remembered for her kindness, her loving nature, and welcoming smile. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were source of great joy. She always appreciated that everyone treated her like she was special which she was.
We would like to express appreciation to the staff at Lovelace Cancer Center on MLK and Lovelace Oncology who would greet her with a smile and a hug.
Rosary will be recited at the Church of the Ascension Friday, January 25th at 7 p.m. and funeral services Saturday, January 26th at 10 a.m. Serving as pallbearers will be Christopher Montano-McCrea, Philip Aragon, Mark Esquibel, Jason Baca, Larry Lovato Jr., and Raul Chavez. Honorary pallbearers will be Kerry Murphy, Leonard Gonzales, Rudy "Butch" Vigil, Ruben Vigil and Rodney Martinez.
