Damon Chase Hill was born in Reading, Pennsylvania and died in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He spent his childhood exploring Pennsylvania farm country. Family vacations opened his mind to other possibilities and cultivated life-long interests in archaeology, geology, hiking, and travel. He earned degrees in anthropology from the University of Pittsburgh and Yale University. As an undergraduate, he met his wonderful wife, Fatima. They bonded over a love of travel, art, music, film, and reading. Damon worked in many roles, including steel worker, teacher, writer, and researcher. He traveled on five continents. His life brought him into contact with people that inspired and challenged him to keep learning; to treat others as he wished to be treated; and to strive to become a better person, values he learned from his parents, extended family, and teachers. The births of his daughter, Liliana, and his son, Leo, brought new responsibilities along with deep meaning and joy to his life. He committed to raising them to become kind, competent, and knowledgeable human beings. He enjoyed hiking and backpacking for the solace and communion with nature it offered. He shared lively conversations, unforgettable adventures, and the ups and downs of life with his friends. His family provided him with a home that was with him wherever he went. Thank you everyone. It’s been a wild ride.
