On July 24th, 2023 at the age of 72, David Lopez Guzman passed away peacefully in Colorado Springs, CO. He was born on October 20th, 1950 in Las Cruces, New Mexico.   

  He is survived by his loving wife of forty-two years Maria; son Daniel and spouse Delilah, granddaughter Devony, one brother, three sisters, sister-in-law Debbie and brother-in-law Mike Marthe, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Lucita Guzman, in-laws, Salomon and Manuela Luna, son Anthony M. Guzman, granddaughter Danilyn D. Guzman.

  David served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era and was honorably discharged in August 1973. He then continued serving his community as a police officer with the Albuquerque Police Department and after many years of service he retired as a Lieutenant. His passion of service never-ending led him to Albuquerque Public Schools as a school resource officer (SRO). He was a proud member of the American Legion and the Fraternal Order of Police. He was on the board of the Latino Peace Officers Association (LPOA), he was also a founding father of the New Mexico Police Officer Association (NMPOA).

  A viewing will be held on Wednesday, August 9th, 2023, at 8 a.m. located at Holy Family Church 562 Atrisco Dr. SW Albuquerque, New Mexico 87105. Mass of Resurrection to be celebrated at 9 a.m. Father Patrick Schafer presiding.

  Interment will follow services at Mt. Calvary Cemetery 1900 Edith Blvd. NE with full military honors.  Pallbearers will be Daniel Guzman, Carlos Otero, Chris Pargas, Leonard Garcia, Troy Baldonado, Paul Candelaria. Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Baca, Rick Evertson, Marie "Sisi" Miranda, Michael Montoya. 

  The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff in the Cardiac Unit at the VA Hospital in Albuquerque, N.M as well as the staff at UC Health Cardiology Memorial Hospital Central in Colorado Springs, CO. Thank you to Gabaldon Mortuary for providing services and going above and beyond. 

  David will be remembered as a loving, caring husband and father, respected father-in-law, adored and cherished "Papa" by his granddaughter Devony who he called "his little princess, and munchkin". He was a loyal, trusted friend to many and will be greatly missed by all. His memory will forever live in our hearts.
