Dolores Montoya

Dolores Montoya, d. October 16, 2024, age 71, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away on October 16, 2024. Dolores is survived by her children, Miguel (Frankye) Silva, Carlos (Ann Marie) Silva, Celina (Elias) Archuleta, Antonio (Lois) Silva, and Tomas Silva; grandchildren Juaquin Silva, Andres Silva, Zach Silva, Alexia Silva, Carlos (CJ) Silva, James Silva, Adriana Archuleta, Diego Archuleta, Francisco Archuleta, Ashlyn Tucker, Audrey Silva, Marcos Silva, Isabel Silva-Rise, Ariana Moore, Shelby Moore, and great-grandchild Laine Moore; her mother Leonella Montoya, her godchildren Pia Harris and Renee Reyes. She was also survived by seven sisters and two brothers and was preceded in death by her father Jose Montoya, her granddaughter Juliet Silva, and daughter-in-law Renee Rise. Dolores worked for many years in the Albuquerque Public School system, teaching at Washington Middle School, Truman Middle School, West Mesa High School, Del Norte High School and retired from Valley High School. She also served as the Bilingual Coordinator at West Mesa, Del Norte and Valley High Schools. She was proud sponsoring the Folklorico Dance Team and the Bilingual Seal Program at West Mesa High School. She was a known as a talented artist working with paints, tin art, wood work, as well as the go to calligrapher for family, co-workers and friends. She was known for her holiday specialties which were her famous chocolates and annual Christmas ornaments. Before teaching she was also known for making cakes for all occasions, specializing in wedding cakes and at one point owned an arts and craft shop with her sister. Her children and grandchildren loved sifting through her many cake decorating books and picking out the birthday and wedding cakes she would end up making for them. She was extremely proud of her yard and home, doing all the yardwork and handy-woman work on her home even up to her last chemotherapy treatment.

A Rosary will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at 7:00 p.m.  Mass will be held Friday, November 8, 2024 at 10:15 a.m. all to be held at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 5712 Paradise Blvd., NW, Albuquerque, NM 87114.
