Eileen Gertrude Lynch, age 91, resident of Edgewood, New Mexico, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Friday, September 29, 2017 after an extended illness. Eileen was born on June 19, 1926 in Youngstown, Ohio to Joseph and Cecilia Zimmer. Affectionately nicknamed, “Ike”, Eileen survived the great depression, graduating in 1943 from, Ursuline High School in Youngstown before moving to Albuquerque, New Mexico with her family in 1946. After their wedding, she and her husband Tom acquired a special appreciation for southwestern Native American culture while living in Gallup and Laguna Pueblo and teaching in Zuni, New Mexico before returning to Albuquerque. Mrs. Lynch is survived by her son, John Lynch and partner Julie Garcia of Edgewood, who were her primary caregivers for many years; grandchildren, Derek, John David and Ashley Lynch; great-grandchildren, Lucas Hunter, Aurora Juniper Rose; siblings, Benita Zimmer, Raymond Zimmer and wife, Barbara of Las Vegas, NM, and Cecile Gerken of Albuquerque; as well as, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Mrs. Lynch was preceded in death by her parents; husband of nearly 28 years, Thomas Lynch; brother, Richard Zimmer of Huron, Ohio; sister, Dolores Boehning of Eagar, Arizona; and son, Joseph I. Lynch of Albuquerque.
In addition to being a loving wife, mother and grandmother, Eileen was a retired employee of Sunwest Bank in Albuquerque. She was a devoted member of San Martin de Porres and Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Churches for many years. In 2010 Eileen joined her son John and his family to live in Edgewood. She was especially devoted to her sons and grandchildren, whom she loved very much. Eileen enjoyed old west cowboy music, reading, working crossword puzzles and playing clean card games with her sisters and close friends. She will always be remembered for her joyful personality, charming laugh, flair for artistic creativity, unselfish willingness to be helpful to all she knew, and for her strong Christian faith. She set a good example of how to be grateful for even the smallest things in life.
Visitation will be Friday, October 13, 2017 from 9:45 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna Rd. NW with a Rosary to be recited at 10:15 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Committal Service to be held Monday, October 16, 2017 at 12:45 a.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be made in Eileen’s name to her favorite charity, the UNM Children’s Hospital Wish List. The family wishes to thank Heritage Hospice for their love and kindness to Eileen.
