Elia Gurule Montano, age 97, a resident of Albuquerque, NM, passed away on May 19, 2022. Elia is survived by her daughter Jean Garcia and husband, Johnny; grandchildren Sonya Villa and husband, Steve, Melissa Andrade and fiancé, Brad, Alexandria Cisneros and fiancé, Kenny, Jonathan Cisneros; great-grandchildren Manuel, Stevie, Steve, Lexie, Lucas, Jonathan, Josiah, and Miyah; son Robert and family. She is also survived by her sister Martha Castillo and fiancé, Bill, special niece, Renee, and nephews. Mrs. Montano was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Rudolfo (Rudy), beloved son Richard, parents Ramon and Guadalupe Gurule, and Jose Rodriguez. Elia was born on August 14, 1924 in Martinez Town in Albuquerque, NM. She began working at the age of 15 and retired in 1969 to focus on raising her children. Though she had several jobs, she was most proud of the time that she spent working in a lumber mill camp in Arizona and as a welder in the shipyards in California during WWII. Elia lived a long, happy life and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 6, 2022, at 8:00 am at Holy Family Catholic Church, 562 Atrisco Dr. SW, with a Rosary at 8:30 am, and Mass at 9:00 am. Mrs. Montaño will be laid to rest at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with her beloved husband, Rudy, in a private ceremony. Pall Bearers will be Jonathan Cisneros, Kenneth Vigil, Danny Castillo, Daniel Castillo, John (Johnny Boy) Serna, and Matthew Castillo. Honorary Pallbearer will be Mark Bachicha.
