Emiliano Herrera lll, was born on February 15, 1983, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on March 27, 2023, at his home in Houston, Texas. Emiliano attended St. Pius X high School in Albuquerque and followed his passion for service, earning his Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and Catholic Studies from the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas. His interest in community leadership and immigration-focused service, let him to pursue his master’s in social work from the University of Houston. Emiliano spent the next seventeen years refining his craft as a licensed clinical social worker through counseling, case management, community outreach and mentorship. Emiliano was a board LCSW-S and shared his gifts working with Neighborhood Centers, Harris Health, Spring Spirit and most recently as the Director of Behavioral Health at Spring Branch Community Health Center—always working hard toward his dream of opening his own practice. While in Houston, Emiliano fell in love with Leyva Ann Olivares. They married soon after and were blessed with four beautiful children, Emilian lV, Magdalena, Luca, and Zellie. It was easy to see that Emiliano’s greatest joy was his family. He enthusiastically supported Leyva in education their children at home, always jumping in head-first into the lessons—whether donning elaborate Halloween costumes, carving pinewood derby racers, cheering on at swim meets, cooking traditional Mexican dishes or embarking on spontaneous family adventures. Emiliano led by example at home and in his community. He was a passionate leader in Boy Scouts of America and Prince of Peace Catholic Community. He shared his unforgettable smile, unique sense of humor, and incredible Joie de vivre with everyone. He is survived by his wife, Leyva Herrera; children, Emilian lV age 15, Maggie Teresa age 13, Luca Valentine age 9, and Zelle Marie age 7; his parents Emiliano Herrera ll and Celia Herrera; siblings, Martin Herrera, Julio Herrera and Delma Herrera, Angelica and Jaime Hernandez, Miguel and Danielle Herrera, Teresa and Josefina Herrera. To honor the wishes of Emiliano, funeral services will be in Houston, Texas with interment in his hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Houston visitation and Rosary will be 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church campus, 19222 TX 249 Houston, Texas,77070. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 31, 2023, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Albuquerque visitation and Mass to follow at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, April 3, at Holy Family Catholic Church 562 Atrisco Dr. SW, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87105 with interment to follow the services at Mt. Calvary Cemetery 1900 Edith Blvd NE.
