Fr. Ramon Smith, O.F.M. , born and raised in Ontonagon, MI and resident of Albuquerque passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 06, 2016.  Fr. Ramon pronounced his first vows as a Franciscan in 1945 in Cincinnati, OH.  He was ordained a priest in 1953 in Oldenburg, IN.   Fr. Ramon was an accomplished linguist who fluently spoke and wrote in five languages.  During his ministry he served at parishes in Ohio, Indiana, Louisiana, Arizona and New Mexico.  He also served as Chaplain for the Poor Clare Monastery in Roswell and the Felician Sisters in Rio Rancho, his final assignment.  Ill health prompted Fr. Ramon’s retirement from active ministry in 2011.  The Franciscan Community would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Casa de Rosa Assisted Living facility in the North Valley. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 13, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at San Juan Diego Friary, Lakeview Rd. SW, 87105 with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 1900 Edith NE, 87102.
