Jose Adelaido Chavez, 87, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2016 at his home in the South Valley, with his family at his bedside. Mr. Chavez was born March 03, 1928 in Torreon, NM, the first born son of Melcor and Concepcion Chavez.  Mr. Chavez is survived by his children, JoeRay Chavez and wife, Molly, Darlene Valles and husband, Dan, Melcor Chavez and wife, Peggy, Thelma Aragon and husband, Marty, Andy Chavez, Judith Ackermann and husband, Mark, Abe Otero, and Albert Otero;  grandchildren, April Ramirez, and husband, Demetrio, Jennifer Maldonado and husband, Jerome, Valerie Valles Pedroza and husband, Adrian, Ruth Aragon, Margarita Chavez, Megan Aragon, Jerome Chavez and wife , Tiana, Angelica Chavez, Brianna Chavez, Enrique Chavez and Felicia Sanchez, Edward Ackerman, and James Ackerman;  great- grandchildren, Santiago and Joaquin Aragon Roybal, Jacob and Jada Maldonado, Mariana, Marco, and Emilio Pedroza, Lilyanna Chavez, Adrian and Juliet Chavez; brothers and sisters, Feliciano Chavez, Candelaria Garcia, Eulalia Gutierrez, Elfego Chavez and wife, Reina, Gabe Chavez and wife, Lucy, Sal Chavez, Gilbert Chavez and wife, Rachel, Melcor Chavez Jr., Peggy Pohl and husband, Herman, Sylvia Castillo and husband, Wilfred, Cecil Chavez and wife, Emma.  Mr. Chavez was preceded in death by his wife, Aurora; son, John; grandson, JoeRay Jr.; granddaughter, Patris; parents, Melcor and Concepcion Chavez; sisters, Juanita Otero, Rosita Trujillo, and Rita Garcia.  In 1946, at the age of seventeen, he joined the USAF, and was a Corporal for the 637th Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron where he worked as a radar operator.  After serving his country, Jose married Aurora, his wife of sixty-three years.  They moved to Albuquerque in 1952 where they lived in the South Valley and raised seven children.  He was a faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church where he served in the Holy Name Society and was a Eucharist Minister.  Jose retired from the City of Albuquerque where he worked for thirty years.  Jose loved life and always had a positive outlook, even in difficult times.   His life's motto was, "Everything is fine and dandy with sugar and candy." He had a wonderful life full of adventures from the ranch, his military service, his work with the city, his hunting trips and more.  He was a great storyteller and he left his family and friends with many beautiful  stories and treasures.  Visitation will be Wednesday, February 24, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.  at Holy Family Catholic Church, 562 Atrisco SW with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Adrian and Valerie Pedroza.  Final visitation will be Thursday, February 25, 2016 from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m.   Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be  Dan Valles, Marty Aragon, Abe Otero, Albert Otero, Jerome Chavez, and Enrique Chavez.   The family would like to give a special thank you to Margarita Chavez for taking care of grandpa during his final weeks.
