Leonardo "Tato" Gutierrez

Leonardo "Tato" Gutierrez was born on September 10,1934 in Sedillo, NM. He is the son of Florival and Estella Gutierrez and was the first-born son of 16 siblings. He graduated from Albuquerque High School and enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1952. Upon completing basic training, he was transferred to Andrews Air Force Base in Washington DC. Later in his military career he was reassigned to Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX, where he served as a Tech Sergeant and met his wife Velia (Betty) Flores, to whom he was married for 66 years. He passed away peacefully in his home in San Antonio, TX on October 24, 2024 at 90 years old. Leonardo is survived by his wife and his five children: Michael Gutierrez, Debra Gutierrez-Riley, Christopher Gutierrez, Paul Gutierrez and Barbara Rapelye. He was a loving father and grandfather. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of life will be Friday, April 11, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. in The Gabaldon Memorial Chapel located at 1000 Old Coors Drive SW, Albuquerque, NM 87121. A Burial will take place Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at Sedillo Hill Cemetery.
