Longino “Gino” Giron, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and dedicated public servant, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on January 24, 1943, in Veguita, New Mexico, Gino was the treasured son of Anselmo Giron and Ocares “Cora” Valles.

Gino grew up surrounded by the strong family values that defined his life. He shared a close and loving bond with his siblings: Elizabeth Giron, Maria Giron, Yvonne (Dave Harrel), and Naeem Giron. His commitment to family remained unwavering throughout his life.

On May 16, 1963, Gino married his soulmate, Mary Sofie Giron, beginning a beautiful partnership that spanned 61 years. Together, they raised six children: Eric, Jesse, Adam, Scotty, Jude, and Tearza. Their family grew to include 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, who brought endless joy to Gino’s life.

Gino graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1960 as a proud Bulldog and went on to earn an Associate of Science in Fire Technology from the University of Albuquerque in May 1980. His dedication to service began early when he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1961. He served honorably as a Corporal (E-4) at Camp Pendleton, California, before being discharged in 1965.

Gino’s professional career was equally distinguished. He served as a patrolman at the New Mexico State Fairgrounds before embarking on a long and successful federal civil service career as a firefighter at Kirtland Air Force Base. Over the years, he rose to the rank of Station Chief, retiring on January 3, 1997, after 35 years of exemplary service.

A man of deep faith, integrity, and humility, Gino was a guiding light for his family and a pillar of his community. His wisdom, compassion, and steadfast love left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.

Services to honor Gino’s life will be held at St. Edwin’s Catholic Church. The rosary prayer service will take place on January 29, 2025, at 7 p.m., followed by a celebration of his life on January 30, 2025, at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1030am on January 31, 2025.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation in Gino’s memory.

Rest in peace, Gino. Your love and legacy will forever be a source of strength and inspiration to those who hold you dear.
