Romolo Vincent Nuanes, Our beloved Pappy passed away peacefully in his sleep the evening of August 27, 2016 at the wonderful age of 100. He lived his entire life within one mile of where he was born and as a young man worked at Kirtland Air Force Base as an airplane mechanic and served 38 years as a civil servant. After retirement he and his wife, Susan traveled Europe, Mexico and Hawaii. Pappy liked repairing old watches and watching the 9:00 p.m. news. He read the Albuquerque Journal from front to back every day. Pappy was engaged and inquisitive and possessed a great sense of humor. He would always have the last say in a game of play on words. He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan; and his son, Richard. Romolo is survived by his sister, Ann Lucero; daughters, Lucille Nuanes and husband, John Waskiewicz, Joan Nuanes and Dennis Schneider; daughter-in-law, Gloria Nuanes; grandchildren, Tamara Nuanes, Brian Smith and Stella, Diana Smith and Tony, Rick Nuanes and wife, Desiree; great grandchildren, Chad, Ashley, Victoria and Larry, Andrew, Ricky and Vincent; great-great grandchildren, Bella, Niko, Enoch, Haley and Monroe. A Rosary will be recited Saturday, September 03, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 309 Stover Ave. SW at 10:40 a.m.; Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the San Jose de Armijo Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Smith, Rick Nuanes, Chad Smith, Marty Hauser, John Sanchez, John Waskiewicz and Dennis Schneider. In lieu of flowers the family asks you make donations to Gentiva Hospice, 5600 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Suite 10, Albuquerque, NM 87109. Pappy was the rock in our family and it will be hard to carry on without him in our lives. There are countless “Pappy stories”. He was loved by all who knew him. Aloha Pappy.
