Sigilfredo “Sig” Sanchez
June 28, 1932-October 7, 2015
Our beloved Sigilfredo J. Sanchez passed away on October 7th 2015. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Virginia; his children: Michael, wife Bernadette; Greg, wife Vincenza; Joseph, Rick and daughter-in-law Rachel. He has 7 grandchildren: Amber, husband Kael; Jason, wife Patricia; Phillip, Sofia, Gabrielle, Mariah and Andres. He has 5 great-grandchildren: Alyssa, Antonio, Santiago, Alana and Jax. He is survived by his sisters Lena and Lydia and his brother Eli. He was preceded in death by his parents Jocobo and Sofia, his son Gerald and his siblings Jose P. and Delfinia. He was greatly loved by his many nieces, nephews and primos. “Sig” was a veteran of the United States Airforce. He was a lifetime New Mexico law enforcement officer, spending 27 years with the Albuquerque Police Department. After serving with APD he went on to serve as Chief of Police in both Belen and Tucumcari. He possessed a unique sense of humor. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family at the cabin that he built located in the Santa Fe National forest. He was a devoted historian of his ancestry and New Mexico heritage, a love that was evident to all who knew him. Services will be held on Tuesday October 13, 2015 at San Martin Church 8321 Camino San Martin, SW with visitation at 11:00 AM followed by the Rosary at 11:30 and mass of Christian burial at noon. His final resting place will be The National Cemetery in Santa Fe.
