December 04, 2015Sobeida (Sobie) Romero Chavez, 91, born in Cuba, NM and a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Friday, December 4, 2015.  Mrs. Chavez was preceded in death by her parents, Amado and Eufemia Romero; and her husband, Benny Chavez. She is survived by her loving children, Robert and wife, Karen, Gerald and wife, Sigrid, Adele and David; grandchildren, Yvette and husband, Dan, Bryan and Chantz; step-grandsons, Ian, David and Karsten; great-grandchildren, Jasmine, Sean, Monique, and Pandora; brother, Tane and wife, Loretta; sisters, Mary and Judy; sisters-in-law, Anna, Mary Lou, and Ramona; brother-in-law Royce; and many cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends; her baptismal godchildren, Georgia, Louisa, Bernadette, Mary, Gayle, Bryan, Nolan, Janet, Lisa, Geri, Ronnie, and Ray; confirmation godchildren, Georgia, Dorothy and Renee.  Mrs. Chavez was preceded in death by sister, Cristy and husband, Johnny; brother-in-law, Ervin; sister, Maria; and brother, Amado Jr.; godchildren, Rita, Matthew and Gloria; and her baby brothers and sisters, Maclovia, Maclovia II, Remijio, Alfonso, Berna and Henry.  Sobie attended The Catholic Teachers College, UNM and Albuquerque Business College and taught school for a few years, but the business world had always fascinated her. She worked for a few years for First Title Guarantee and Trust Co. She then started her career as a Mortgage Banker, until she retired at age 65.    She will be remembered for her gentleness and willingness to help others. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 8, 2015 from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 9502 4th St. NW with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m.  Final visitation will be Wednesday, December 9, 2015 from 8:30 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. at the Church with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:00 a.m., Rev. Father Juan Mendez, presider.
