CHAVEZ, THEODORE (TED) G., age 86, born in San Marcial, NM and a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Friday, January 30, 2015, following a long and valiant struggle with cancer. Mr. Chavez is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-eight years, Marcella (Gonzales) Chavez; children, David Chavez Jr. and wife, Sheila, Elizabeth J. Carson and husband, Gary, Barbara Montano and companion, Fred Teupell, Diana Martinez and husband, Ralph, Linda Salazar and husband, Joseph, Richard Chavez Sr. and wife, Lucia; sisters, Gloria, Rita, and Isabel; brothers, Jake, Max, Pete, and Gene; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Chavez was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Chavez was born and raised in Southern New Mexico, the son of Antonio and Miquela Chavez. He would eventually work and retire from the Federal Bureau of Reclamation. Mr. Chavez graduated from the first Volunteer Officer Program of the Albuquerque Police Department and was quite proud of this accomplishment. He met his wife, Marcella in Albuquerque when they were teenagers and they were married in 1946 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mr. Chavez had a passion for music and was a fairly accomplished self-taught guitar player. In his early years he enjoyed playing the guitar at family gatherings to the accompaniment of a cousin's accordion and a friend's guitar. Their favorite rendition of "You Are My Sunshine: was usually on the schedule. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 4, 2015, from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel. Final visitation will be Thursday, February 5, 2015, from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna NW with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. A Committal Service will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:15 p.m. Pallbearers will be Rick Chavez, Davey Chavez, Nicholas Chavez, Raymond Martinez, Joe Salazar, and Gary Carson. Honorary pallbearer will be Fred Teupell.
