Velma Sierra went Home to the Lord on December 23, 2022, at age 79. She was born in Belen, New Mexico to parents Herman and Adelina Marquez. Velma was loved by many and survived by her children, Charles Sierra and wife, Yati, Matthew Sierra and fiancé, Tasha and Germaine Sierra-Lopez and husband, Alfonso; six grandchildren, Vanessa, Isaac, Matthew Jr., Jade and her husband Oscar, Estevan and his wife Michelle, and Julian; five great-grandchildren, Estevan Jr., Elijah, Sofia, Oscar Jr., and Valentina; siblings, Elmer Marquez, and Marcella Gabaldon and husband, Joe; several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.
Velma is preceded in death by her husband, Fred and grandson, Jude. Velma met Fred in 1963 and they were married in 1964 and resided in Albuquerque. After Fred passed in 2002, Velma relied upon her deep Christian faith to embrace peace and enjoyed spending time with her many family, friends and being a beloved mom, grandmother and great grandmother. In addition to her unwavering Christian faith, she will be remembered for her quick wit and sense of humor. Her infectious laugh touched all she knew and loved.
Services will be held in The Gabaldon Memorial Chapel at 1000 Old Coors Dr., SW on Friday, January 27 at 12:30pm with burial to follow at Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery at 700 Yale Blvd. SE. A celebration of Velma’s life will be held at the home of Matthew Sierra following the burial at 3:30pm at 12510 Elena Drive NE.
