William (Billy) J. Chavez, age 55, born in Albuquerque and raised in the South Valley, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2016. William is survived by his mother, Elsie Sanchez and David Araujo; his father, James Chavez and wife, Cora; daughters, Erica Chavez and husband, Raul, and Jacqueline Chavez; sisters, Denise Duran and husband, Stan, Anita Hamel and husband, Jim, and Roberta Ricci and husband, Keith; grandchildren, Brooklyn, and Thalia; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Billy was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jesus and Rosemary Sanchez, and Henry and Antonia Chavez; and his uncles, Larry and Charles Sanchez. William was a Veteran of the U.S.  Navy, was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish at Quemado and Isleta Lakes. William was passionate about drag racing, watching his favorite driver, John Force, and working on his house. William was a beloved son, and brother who will be greatly missed. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 04, 2016 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 562 Atrisco SW from 9:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 10:00 a.m.; Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:45 a.m.  A Committal Service will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Steven Chavez, Stan Duran, Justus Salazar, Keith Ricci, Jim Hamel, and Lawrence Garcia.
