Lillian Cervantes

Lillian “Joyce” Cervantes (Edwards), age 82, born in Fort Smith, Arkansas and resident of Albuquerque, went peacefully to be with our Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 26, 2018.  Joyce is survived by her beloved husband, Ronald L. Cervantes; children, Denine Mares and husband, Nick, Rhonda Cervantes and husband, Vayl Oxford, Tierza Rodriguez and husband, Jacque, Ronaldo Cervantes and wife, Lisa, Leona Mirabal and husband, Gary; grandchildren, Nicole Herrera, Tierza Rose Torrez and husband, Daniel, Lanelle, Anthony, Isaac and Kristen Rodriguez, Madison, Emmarie, Anya and Tarynn Mirabal; great grandchildren, Josiah, Selah, Eliannah and Jude Herrera and Alonzo Mares-Torrez; J.D. and Matthew Sedillo and Kurteen March-Thomas to whom all three she was a second mother.   Joyce was preceded in death by her son, Alonzo Cervantes.

Joyce was best known as, “Momma Joyce” for having helped raise twenty-three children in addition to her own.  As a 60-year resident of Albuquerque, Joyce was an accomplished singer, lending her voice in praise to the Lord with the choirs of San Felipe de Neri Catholic parish, Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Hoffmantown Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Albuquerque.

A visitation will be held Thursday, May 31, 2018 from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Gabaldon Mortuary, 1000 Old Coors Dr. SW.  A final visitation will be held June, 1, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Gabaldon Mortuary, 1000 Old Coors Dr. SW with a funeral service to follow at 10:30 a.m.  Interment will follow services at Mount Calvary Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Anthony Rodriguez, Isaac Rodriguez, J.D. Sedillo, Matthew Sedillo, Daniel Torrez and Josiah Herrera.  Honorary pallbearers will be Jude Herrera and Alonzo Mares-Torrez.
